FOUNDER

From wine to sake: our founder, Satoshi Tanaka, started in the wine industry in 1999 after completing his MBA at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. His first role was working as a Brand Manager for the acclaimed Robert Mondavi Winery. From there, he worked across Napa, learning the trade of exporting wine. In 2008 Satoshi founded East West Wine Trading, a dedicated exporter of California wines to Asia, Europe and Canada.

While working in Japan he was asked about importing sake to the United States. The answer was ‘why not?’. East West Sake was born from that conversation and today has become a premier, full-service importer dedicated to bridging cultural palates by bringing the authentic sake of the East to the Western market.

Together, his agencies manage trade partnerships across Asia, Canada, and Europe, while regularly hosting public and trade educational seminars.

Focused, fun, and deeply passionate about sake, Eduardo is a true apostle for East West Sake.

Eduardo found a passion for sake nearly twenty years ago, when he became the Global Beverage Director for the Morimoto Restaurant Group in 2010. There, he refined his palate, deepened his knowledge and fell madly in love with Japan.

Later, he became an International Wine, Spirits and Sake Judge participating as a Senior Judge in some of the worlds most influential competitions including  the Japan Wine & Sake Challenge, San Francisco World Spirits Competition, San Francisco International Wine Competition and Los Angeles International Wine Competition amongst others.

His credentials include Certified Sommelier under the Court of Master Sommeliers, Certified Sake Professional, Certified Shochu Professional and he completed the Sake Scholarship Course as well.

He’s a Sake Ambassador and Educator working alongside JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization), The Japan Society, and of course East West Sake.

Eduardo is also a Beverage Journalist and has contributed to to several publications including Decanter Magazine, The Napa Register, WANDS, Sake Tips and SOMM TV. You can follow him on socials @sakedrinker

Jack joined the EWS team in 2017. Jack comes from the wine business as well, having cut his teeth in hospitality in NYC, where he learned the ins-and-outs of the alcoholic beverage industry across multiple roles. In 2015, with the encouragement of some winemaker friends, Jack started the Jack Edwards Collection representing small quality wineries from the southeast of France in the US and Canadian markets.

Today, he works with East West Sake and East West Wine Trading supporting distributor partnerships, compliance, and import/export.
